Frequently Asked Questions

How does Nightcap know what I can make?

Nightcap compares your inventory against each cocktail's ingredients. When you have all (or most) ingredients, the cocktail shows as "makeable." We also factor in smart substitutions — for example, if a recipe calls for lime juice but you have lemon juice, we'll let you know you can still make it.

What are substitutions?

Substitutions are ingredient swaps that work in a pinch. Missing simple syrup? Use sugar and water. Out of Angostura bitters? Try Peychaud's. Nightcap suggests these automatically. You can adjust how adventurous substitutions are in Settings.

Can I add my own recipes?

Yes! Go to My Recipes to create your own cocktails. You can add ingredients, instructions, and photos. Your custom recipes work just like built-in ones — they'll appear in your makeable list when you have the ingredients.

Does Nightcap work offline?

Yes. Once you've opened the app, all recipes and your inventory are available offline. Any changes you make will sync when you're back online.

How do I sync across devices?

Create an account or sign in with your email. Your inventory, favorites, and settings automatically sync to any device where you're signed in with the same account.

What's the difference between "makeable" and "almost makeable"?

Makeable means you have every ingredient (or a valid substitution). Almost makeable means you're missing just 1-2 ingredients. This helps you see what's close — maybe you have everything except one garnish.

How do I delete my account?

Go to Settings → Delete Account in the app, or visit our account deletion page. This permanently removes your account and all associated data.

Is Nightcap free?

Yes, Nightcap is free to download and use. All 200+ recipes, inventory tracking, and core features are included at no cost. No ads, no paywalls.
